About Ruth

Ruth Spiro is the author of the bestselling Baby Loves Science books, the groundbreaking original series introducing big ideas to the littlest listeners. These innovative board books encourage a natural sense of wonder in a research-based, age appropriate and engaging way. The series has been praised by The Los Angeles Times, NPR, TODAY, Popular Science, Working Mother, and more.

Her STEM-themed picture book series, Made by Maxine, is about a creative young Maker who knows that with the right mix of imagination and recyclables, it’s possible to invent anything. The second book in the series is Maxine and the Greatest Garden Ever, named a “Best STEM Book” by the National Science Teaching Association.

Ruth’s debut picture book, Lester Fizz, Bubble-Gum Artist, won awards from Writer’s Digest and Willamette Writers and was a Bank Street College of Education Best Book. Her articles and essays have appeared in FamilyFun, CHILD and The Writer, as well as in many anthologies, notably The Right Words at the Right Time, edited by Marlo Thomas, and several Chicken Soup for the Soul titles.

A message from Ruth:

Nice to “meet” you!

When I was a child, I never imagined I’d be a writer when I grew up. I studied Advertising in college, worked in broadcast production, and then went on to study Business in graduate school. One day I was flipping through the local community college brochure and noticed a class in writing for children. I signed up just for fun and discovered I really enjoyed it. Now it’s my new career – lucky me! I hope my books inspire kids to observe the world, ask questions, and when it comes to their futures, DREAM BIG.
